Sustainability in Action: How Unitrunk Is Building a Better Future

Unitrunk Ltd is a company that doesn’t just talk about doing things better, it actually lives it. As an internationally renowned manufacturer of engineered cable management products and support systems, Unitrunk has built its reputation on smart design, practical innovation, and solutions that genuinely make life easier for customers. Their leading RIS range is a perfect example, engineered to save installers significant time and money onsite.

And that same forward-thinking mindset runs through the rest of the business. Instead of treating sustainability as a tick-box exercise, the team has woven responsible, future-ready practices into everyday decisions and long-term planning. It’s an approach that’s helping Unitrunk work smarter, strengthen resilience, and deliver even greater value to the customers and communities they support. They’re building a business that’s ready for the future, and proud to lead the way.

A Smarter Approach to Energy

Over the past year, Unitrunk has taken major steps to reduce energy consumption and build a more efficient operation. One of the biggest drivers of change has been the expansion of on-site renewable energy.

At their Lisburn manufacturing facility, the installation of a new solar PV system is now generating a steady supply of clean energy. Their Vantrunk site has also invested in solar, and every depot is now supported by its own installation, creating a strong foundation for greater energy independence across the entire business. These solar projects are already delivering meaningful environmental benefits and reducing reliance on the grid.

Alongside renewable generation, Unitrunk has rolled out a series of energy-efficiency upgrades across the business, including full LED lighting conversions, improved HVAC optimisation, and enhanced insulation.

These initiatives have delivered measurable reductions in energy use, and they are only getting started.

A Clear Commitment to Carbon Reduction

For Unitrunk, carbon reduction is a long-term strategic priority. The business has transitioned to 100% green renewable electricity, supporting its journey to lower operational emissions. Where emissions cannot yet be avoided, Unitrunk invests in certified carbon offset projects linked to reforestation and renewable energy development.

Transport is another area where bold action is underway All sites within the Unitrunk Group now operate an entirely electric forklift fleet, while team members across the UK and Ireland have transitioned to hybrid and fully electric vehicles. EV charging points have been installed across all Unitrunk Group locations, making cleaner travel practical for employees and visitors alike.

Looking Ahead: Ambitious Targets for Real Change

Unitrunk has set clear, measurable goals for the next decade that reflect their commitment to long-term environmental leadership:

  • Net Zero Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2035
  • 100% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2035 or earlier
  • 20% reduction in overall energy consumption by 2026
  • 25% renewable energy by 2025, rising to 100% by 2035
  • Major expansion of solar installations across the Lisburn site and wider depot network.
  • Introduction of low-energy electric heat mats for factory workers.
  • Continued transition to electric vehicles and low-carbon technologies.

These planned investments are expected to bring Unitrunk closer to going fully off-grid, marking a significant milestone in their sustainability journey.
