From 30th September 2021, companies bidding for major government contracts with an anticipated value of over £5m per annum, will be expected to demonstrate their commitment to achieving ‘Net Zero’ by 2050 in the UK with the provision of a detailed Carbon Reduction Plan.

What is a Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP)?

A CRP is a statement of intent confirming an organization’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050 in the UK.

Current guidance around what should be included in the CRP for government procurement includes:

  • Confirmation of the bidding supplier’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050 for their UK operations
  • Provision of current emissions for the sources included in Scope 1 and 2 of the GHG Protocol, and a defined subset of Scope 3 emissions
  • Provision of emissions reporting in CO2 (Carbon Dioxide Equivalent) for the six greenhouse gases covered in the Kyoto Protocol
  • Details of environmental management measures in effect, including certification schemes or specific carbon reduction measures which have or will be adopted
  • Evidence the CRP is published on the supplier’s website
CarbonFIT is built around the FIT process, Footprint, Improvement, Track and Translate, whereby we establish baseline Carbon Footprints to determine challenging but realistic Science-Based Targets and devise Net Zero Action Plans with robust KPI’s and associated timelines.

We provide Low Carbon Energy & Legislation Compliance, such as ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) and SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting). More recently the company has expanded further by developing CarbonFIT – a dedicated program and online platform designed to support organisations with their Carbon Reduction Plans and roadmap individual pathways to Net Zero.
